Merger between NRC and Refugee New Arrivals Project

On 1 February 2010, NRC officially merged with the Refugee New Arrivals Project (a smaller South Yorkshire-based charity with a 9-year track record in supporting refugees into employment, education and volunteering). This has resulted in the formation of the new ‘NRC Employment and Education Service’.

We hope that the merger will result in better services available overall for refugees and asylum-seekers in the region and a more sustainable future for both organisations.

The Employment and Education Service will offer the same services as were provided by the Refugee New Arrivals Project.

These are currently:

  • individual and group-based support for refugees wanting to find paid work and improve their employability (including help with finding jobs, compiling CVs, completing job applications, mock interview practice etc), mainly via delivery of the Employment Advice Service element  of the Home Office-funded Refugee Integration and Employment Service (RIES)
  • helping refugees and asylum seekers access appropriate education and training (including English classes, vocational training and higher education)
  • supporting refugee teachers and engineers (including setting up volunteer work experience and work shadowing placements and running a Refugee Teachers’ Support Group)

NB Some parts of this website are still being updated to take account of the merger
