Refugee Women's Development Project in wind-down phase
Friday, 30 July 2010 13:55
The Refugee Women’s Development Project (RWDP) at Northern Refugee Centre is in a wind-down phase. It is due to end late August / September 2010. Unfortunately we have not been able to secure funding to continue the work. We will continue to write funding bids and hopefully will be able to continue the work at a future date.NRC wishes to give tribute to the women volunteer workers, many of whom are seeking sanctuary themselves, who have supported the project and given their time, skills and expertise to it. They demonstrate the dignity, creativity and ability of refugee women.
There is still a lot of excellent work around refugee women’s issues. Below is a selection of projects to look out for:

Refugee Settlement Applications - Procedure announced
Wednesday, 21 July 2010 08:07
The UKBA has now set out what those refugees granted 5 years limited after 30th August 2005 need to do to get indefinite leave to remain (settlement). This is set out on the UKBA website.
Refugees and those with Humanitarian Protection (HP) granted after that date may make a free application no earlier than 28 days before their permission to remain ends, using a new form 'SET(Protection Route)'. This can be downloaded from there, or requested by phoning the UKBA.Closure of Refugee and Migrant Justice - Update
Tuesday, 22 June 2010 10:37
Refugee and Migrant Justice (formerly the Refugee Legal Centre) has gone into administration and will now be closing after RMJ announced on 24th June that a rescue plan had failed. The NRC has concerns for their clients, who may need to get alternative representation in a market that, at least in Yorkshire and Humberside, does not have a large number of alternative immigration advisers.New Red Cross Report on Asylum Seeker Destitution

The British Red Cross has published a new report on the dire hardship that destitute asylum seekers face called "Not Gone but Forgotten".
They call for support for all failed asylum seekers with children, access to health care throughout an asylum seeker's time in the UK, and the granting of permission to work. The report looks at the experience of failed asylum seekers and calls for a more humane system.
